If you would like to drink along, we recommend just taking a long swig of sleep deprivation, because that’s what all four of us were working on. (If you do need to sleep, Melissa does not recommend sleeping on the bathroom floor.)

  1. That sounds like it was a GREAT time! Huzzah! I am keen to see Valerian.

So, the day after Christmas I did a mini-movie-marathon, first time in AGES I’ve seen two movies in a day. I took in Rogue One, then Moana. Which is to say that I attended an Alan Tudyk Voice-over Comic Relief Non-human Character Mini-Marathon. I didn’t intend for that to happen, but that’s what happened.

There’s a lot to say and a lot that’s been said about R1, but overall I think it worked. That is, except for the original parts of the musical score, which were DIRE. Several times it pulled me completely out of the film. Ugh. Every now and then it would bring in a John Williams signature element and I’d be reminded of how much better THAT score was than THIS score, and that made it even worse. Sigh.

Oddly enough, while the music in Moana has been much-ado-about’d, it didn’t really stick with me very well. (I liked Maui’s number, and the recurring song for Moana isn’t bad, it’s just… *shrug*) It’s a solid piece of animated storytelling, if rather linear and stripped-down in a lot of ways.

I liked, but didn’t love, both of the movies. I still count it as a day out, well spent!
