Episode 118: Great Germans of Comedy

NinotchkaWe are BACK! We are both in Austin, TX preparing for Fantastic Fest, so we decided to shake off the rust a bit and do a little pre-festival podcast about Ninotchka, which we both saw for the first time at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz.

We apologize for the echo-laden sound of this episode. We recorded in a carpeted room that should have been less echo-y than that. (Anyway, it’s just like old times, right?)

After this episode, we will launch promptly into our Fantastic Fest schedule, delivering daily episodes about the newest genre films from around the world! This deluge of new material will last through September 30th, so be prepared!

After that, we will settle into a regular schedule of posting every other week. We will change our format a little to make our episodes more streamlined, as well as keeping our content fresher than before. As a bonus, we will also be occasionally releasing several currently-unaired episodes we recorded earlier this year.

But back to this episode! Show notes behind the cut!

Episode 117: Bless Your Heart

, with special guest: ,

The Nice GuysThis week, dear listeners, we bring you an episode about Shane Black’s latest film, The Nice Guys! Even better, we recorded this with our Mississippi friends, Lisa Rucker and Jessica Griffis, right in the beautiful city of New Orleans!

If you would like to drink along, we recommend either a hand grenade or a shark attack, because all drinks should come with drink toys.

Episode 116: And That’s Where It All Goes Gooey

, with special guest:

Science Gone WrongThis week, dear listeners, we return with guest Duck Washington for a conversation about science gone wrong in movies! We discuss many of our favorite sci-fi films in terms of ethics, real-life dilemmas, and copious amounts of wine.

If you would like to drink along (and you very well might), we suggest either the classy Piattelli Vineyards Malbec or the ever-reliable Low Hanging Fruit Merlot Reserve.

Edited June 23rd, 2016 to add:

One of our fine Brians, Mr. Donohue, has created a lovely title card for this episode. Witness its kaijutastic glory!

Episode 115: A Blunt Instrument at the Sharp Utensil Society

Who's Afraid of Virginia WoolfThis week, dear listeners, we discuss the Liz Taylor/Richard Burton film adaptation of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, which was released 50 years ago as of this June! Windy had never seen it before, so Melissa figured that it was about damned time.

If you would like to drink along, we recommend WATER. That’s right. We both drank WATER for this episode, which is probably a first in XanaCineHistory. But, seriously, this movie has a proximity intoxication effect. It is unwise to double-down on such power.

Episode 114: Multicolored Ramen Movie Night

, with special guest:

Captain America: Civil WarDear listeners, this week we are joined by David Tyler McKay for an episode full of nerdlove for Captain America: Civil War! We start off with a few minutes of spoiler-free territory, then plunge straight into the Spoiler Zone, so you’ll probably want to see the movie before listening to the episode.

If you would like to drink along, we recommend either Bushmills Irish Whiskey (Melissa’s pick), New Amsterdam Vodka (David’s pick), or Grupo Olarra ‘Acantus’ Cabernet Sauvignon/Tempranillo (Windy’s pick) (it’s red).
