Episode 218: A Nickel Short of Quasimodo

Bad LieutenantThis week, dear listeners, we bring you an episode about Abel Ferrara’s 1992 movie Bad Lieutenant and Werner Herzog’s 2009 not-remake Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans! Why? Well, Windy hadn’t seen them before, and Melissa had a need to talk about inexplicable iguanas.

A special note about this episode: it was recorded over a year ago, on February 23rd, 2016. It is one of six episodes that we recorded early last year, which never got posted due to our later hiatus and subsequent posting schedule change. Thankfully, we were talking about movies that were already over five years old, so there aren’t too many stale references.

If you would like to drink along, we recommend either Two Gingers whiskey or New Glarus Staghorn Octoberfest beer.

Episode 113: The Parrot Is Under Police Protection

, with special guest:

Errol MorrisDear listeners, this week, we are joined by guest star Paul Comeau for an episode about master documentarian, Errol Morris! Paul was a former cohost of The Geek Life podcast alongside Melissa, so this is a reunion of sorts. Also, Errol Morris is awesome.

If you would like to drink along, we recommend picking up a bottle of Lambrusco (Windy’s pick) or pre-Prohibition cocktails crafted out of Old Tom gin (which is what Paul was sharing with Melissa).

We do have one correction for this week’s episode. During the show, Melissa complains that the film A Brief History of Time is nigh-impossible to see. Well, it isn’t anymore! In 2014 (which was after Melissa marathoned all of Morris’ films), Criterion released A Brief History of Time on both DVD and Blu-Ray, so now it’s back in circulation.

Also,  we promised a photo of Errol Morris hugging Werner Herzog under a rainbow, so here you go:

Episode 88: Onion, Parsley, Shoe

0088 DocumentariesThis week, dear listeners, Melissa gets all nerdy with one of her favorite areas of cinema: documentaries. She selects a few of her favorites to discuss, and Windy adds a few of her own.

If you would like to drink along, we suggest either Norton Barrel Select red wine or New Amsterdam vodka, both of which are fine budget selections.

We apologize for the audio issues. We were recording over Hangouts, and Windy’s feed wasn’t always reliable. Also, there was nearly a one-second delay, so some weird timing things happen. We’ve fixed everything we can.

To make up for it, here’s a screenshot of Windy making a face:

0057 RomcomDear listeners, if the term “romcom” is poison to you, don’t worry… we know how you feel! That’s why this week, we talk about romantic comedies for people who hate romantic comedies! And joining us this week as our special guest is comedy person Kelvin Hatle!

If you would like to ignite your passions with some booze (as we certainly did while recording), we recommend Rabbit Ridge Allure de Robles, a red wine with a rabbit on the bottle. Because rabbits have sexy-times, and so should you.
